Greek mythology · primordial · the sky
The sky, born of Gaia and then her consort, who imprisoned his children inside the earth. Castrated by his son Cronus with an adamantine sickle; from his blood came the Furies, and from the sea-foam around his severed flesh, Aphrodite.
Cronus's sickle ends the tyranny of Uranus, and where the severed flesh falls into the sea, foam gathers. From it steps Aphrodite, desire itself, and grass rises under her feet as she comes ashore at Cyprus.
