Indian mythology · divine being · wisdom, ancient memory
The immortal king of bears, present since the churning of the ocean. It is he who reminds Hanuman of his forgotten powers before the leap to Lanka, and he who fought Krishna for the Syamantaka jewel and gave him his daughter in marriage.
The ocean itself yields to Rama's resolve: with Sugriva's armies, Angada's vanguard, and Jambavan's counsel, the vanaras hurl stones that float, and a causeway grows across the strait to Lanka. Vibhishana, cast out for honest counsel, crosses to Rama's side and is promised the crown.
